"Furniture is familiar to everyone, that's why we incorporate it in our language and lives. You know-the head of the table or the bedstead, the feet-there's humanity and democracy in that."

Frederick John Lamp, the Frances and Benjamin Benenson Foundation Curator of African Art
Came to the Gallery in 2004. Dancer, artist, former Peace Corps volunteer. “All this led me to look at African art forms holistically—not just the material arts, but also theater, dance, all the performance aspects.”

Came to the Gallery in 1999. Former police officer in Peru and ice sculptor in New Haven. "I saw a fish on a plate in the American galleries that is glazed ceramic, and its tail is up. I took a few pictures and brought them to the icehouse."
